The diptych includes Puccini's first opera, Le Villi (The Samodivas), a traditional melodrama combined with compositional genius. "Gianni Schicchi projects the future in the history of opera. The two works are linked by a narrator and Dante's Divine Comedy, through which the relationship between tragic and comic opera is formed. These are different musical languages, different directions of the characters, different stories, but always close to our reality, situations and emotions. In Puccini's words, "Opera should be funny or emotional and intriguing. In this case we can show both kinds. Opera should touch our emotions and in both cases we will feel it. Opera should tell our stories and we should identify in them."
